How to Bring Increase to a World in Decrease

Who is tired of the words online, virtual and Zoom meeting? Back in the 90s, the phrase “let’s chat online” used to be exciting, it used to be cool! Now it’s all we’ve got to work with.

I just re-watched the movie, The Martian, where astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) gets stranded on Mars and has to figure out how to survive. One of my favorite lines was, “I’m going to have to science the sh** out of this”. Meaning, he had to figure out how to get off the planet with his brain. (I don’t want to ruin it for you, but he made it happen.)

We are basically stranded on Mars right now. We have no idea when the rescue ship is coming and we are running out of resources. Now if you’ve seen the movie, you know that Mark figured out how to grow potatoes on a planet with no oxygen. Because he was not only a rocket scientist, but a botanist too. And he took a small stash of potatoes from the food he had left and turned it into 564 days worth of food, which kept him alive until he was rescued. Check out the clip below…

Don’t you just love that? Mark used the gifts, talents and resources that he already had to get off that planet. And like Mark, we each have a treasure trove of ideas and talents to help solve this crisis. We don’t need anything else, we are fully equipped right now, today.

This summer, I encourage you to turn off the news, turn off social media, stop looking at your bank account and open up your mind. What can you do in this brand new world that is only limited to Zoom meetings, online buying and virtual events?

I’ll give you a hint: anything we want.
